Helping teens build confidence in their own voice

We helped tell the story behind Wordsmint - an app designed to tackle social anxiety through rap

Choosing projects for the right reasons takes us to some new and interesting places, such as this campaign film that we wrote, produced and shot for Rotterdam digital powerhouse agency, Dot Control.  We filmed the spot in Rotterdam’s iconic Van Nelle factory in the midst of lockdown. We worked with one of our favourite directors, Mikey Trotter, our old friend Sigmar Vriesde who helped cast the brilliant young rap talent, a small crew - and a handful of extras ( including our very own marketing junior, Nghi!) to create a film that told the story of the app. We even got our friend Hannah Whiteley to be the (excellent) voice of Wordsmint.

Helping teenagers to be themselves

Wordsmint is an app to help teenagers express themselves through rap.  It’s something fun and easy to do, but that also comes with an important message about dealing with a very contemporary version of adolescent angst. We wanted to help get this message out there in a fresh and compelling way.

Building confidence is the key

This thoughtful campaign identified that young people are suffering from anxiety, especially post-lockdown, due to increasing amounts of time spent on social media which can leave teens feeling isolated and lonely. It’s a relatively under-researched yet important area that we as a society should be doing more to understand.

This campaign helped explain and shine a light on an app where young people can express themselves and build confidence in their own voices in a playful way
