In the next evolution of style meets technology, tech brand Lenovo has teamed up with three cutting-edge designers - KIT WAN Studios, RANRA and MAIUM - to create a futuristic capsule collection that reimagines the outerwear of tomorrow. From noise and light-cancelling hoodie to an inflatable hammock and a techno-armour exoskeleton, the prototype designs blend avant-garde streetwear with technical, functional innovations that break the boundaries of fashion - by physically merging tablets into jackets.

The result - the Lenovo Tab Wear Collection - is a pioneering prototype collection that takes the indoors, outdoors - redefining multipurpose design with style features that allow the wearer to create their own personal space wherever they are, and provide a new kind of freedom to enjoy entertainment without the small screen compromise or creeping notifications of a phone.

Each unique piece represents the designer's own interpretation of me-time. As well as introducing conceptual twists and cutting-edge techniques to innovate the idea of a jacket, each designer incorporated sustainable practices - resulting in three jackets made with conscious design, utilizing recycled materials with the aim of producing a low carbon footprint.

Cementing its reputation for imaginative, fashionable yet functional pieces offering protection from the elements, Amsterdam-based brand Maium’s all-season hammock lets the wearer create a custom me-time cocoon anywhere - cleverly disguised in an inflatable poncho.

My design was inspired by the idea of a butterfly in nature, and how it emerges from its cocoon to experience life. I wanted to design a garment that feels ultra comforting to the point you don’t want to take it off - but that also transforms into something functional and fun. At first glance, this looks like a regular poncho, but when it starts inflating it’s almost magical: turning the jacket into a cosy cocoon. When it converts into a hammock, the wearer can emerge from their cocoon to enjoy me-time in nature. The coat is made from 66 recycled PET bottles, with the goal of producing a low carbon footprint. All in all, this makes an amazing project, it really allowed me to think out of the box and design something special

Meanwhile, London/Reykjavik studio RANRA, which specializes in transitional outerwear pieces designed for both nature and the urban environment, has created the ultimate me-time pod for outdoors.

Equipped with a custom-made noise and light canceling ‘isolation hood’, the jacket allows the wearer to immerse themselves in the cinematic experience of a Lenovo tablet wherever, whenever.

“This project gave us the ability to think really broadly about the integration of me-time in fashion and technology. It's not about integrating elements of electronics into your clothing - it’s about thinking: how will the piece perform? A hood normally just protects you from the rain, but in our design, it’s almost like an office. It was interesting to design for a modern scenario - how you interact with your tablet - that hadn’t necessarily been done before. We allowed all the functions to create the aesthetic because clothes are tools for living as well.”

Finally Hong Kong-based independent menswear designer and visual artist, KIT WAN STUDIOS, has drawn on his distinctive multicultural vision to create an avant-garde manifestation of modular techno-armour. Complete with hyper-customisable elements, such as detachable blankets and hoodies, plus the ability to transform into a bag, the design elevates extreme functionality with a high fashion twist.

“For me, this campaign is really about that close knitted relationship between fashion and tech. We have technology around us 24/7 - so it was interesting not only to incorporate the reality of using tech during our downtime, but make it a real focus of the design. Another aspect I wanted to reflect was the importance of having something to document unexpected inspirations and references at any time: as an artist, I know that inspiration can come around the clock - even during me-time. With the integrated harness, I can look at the tablet for inspiration while my hands are drawing things, sewing, stitching - and that makes it one of the most exciting elements of the jacket.”

— Kit Wan - Founder & Fashion Designer KIT WAN STUDIOS

“The Lenovo Tab Wear Collection proves that fashion and technology can complement each other to create better everyday experiences. The innovative designs show that ‘me time’ can be mobile, portable, and personal. They are more than just custom modern garments with a Lenovo tablet, they have reimagined possibilities for today’s world.”

— Emily Ketchen - VP and CMO of Intelligent Devices Group and international Markets, Lenovo.
